A rodovia federal BR-174, que liga Manaus a Boa Vista, foi constru\u00edda durante a ditadura militar brasileira como parte da pol\u00edtica de coloniza\u00e7\u00e3o da por\u00e7\u00e3o norte do pa\u00eds. Durante a sua constru\u00e7\u00e3o (1977-1983), muitas comunidades ind\u00edgenas tiveram seus direitos violados, incluindo os Waimiri-Atroari (WA), uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o ind\u00edgena localizada entre os estados do Amazonas e Roraima. A popula\u00e7\u00e3o dos WA diminuiu de 2.973 para 323 pessoas neste per\u00edodo, caracterizando um dos genoc\u00eddios mais graves ocorridos durante o governo militar. H\u00e1 cerca de 40 anos, a comunidade WA come\u00e7ou a bloquear diariamente o acesso ao trecho de 125 km da BR-174 dentro de seu territ\u00f3rio, entre 18h e 6h. A restri\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 uma medida que visa principalmente a seguran\u00e7a da comunidade, prevenindo ataques em suas aldeias \u00e0 noite, e, em segundo lugar, a prote\u00e7\u00e3o da fauna silvestre. No entanto, esse bloqueio ainda gera impactos e conflitos sociais significativos com o governo e o setor privado.<\/p><p>Do ponto de vista ecol\u00f3gico, poucos estudos foram realizados para quantificar os atropelamentos de animais na Amaz\u00f4nia, considerando o atual contexto de expans\u00e3o de estradas e desmatamento na regi\u00e3o, o que representa uma amea\u00e7a \u00e0 conserva\u00e7\u00e3o da biodiversidade. Neste projeto, avaliaremos os impactos da restri\u00e7\u00e3o do tr\u00e1fego noturno da BR-174 na conserva\u00e7\u00e3o da biodiversidade, quantificando o n\u00famero de atropelamentos dentro e fora da reserva e a influ\u00eancia do efeito de barreira nos mam\u00edferos locais. Para isso, instalaremos armadilhas fotogr\u00e1ficas e gravadores de \u00e1udio para avaliar a ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o dessas esp\u00e9cies \u00e0 diferentes dist\u00e2ncias da rodovia. Do ponto de vista social, tamb\u00e9m avaliaremos as motiva\u00e7\u00f5es para o fechamento da estrada por meio de entrevistas com membros da comunidade WA. Com isso, buscamos entender como novas estruturas de governan\u00e7a s\u00e3o formadas e quais s\u00e3o as principais causas que levam ao seu sucesso ou fracasso. Nosso objetivo \u00e9 mostrar os impactos do fechamento da estrada na diminui\u00e7\u00e3o de atropelamentos da fauna silvestre, a fim de apoiar e, possivelmente, replicar medidas semelhantes. Al\u00e9m disso, a an\u00e1lise do modelo de governan\u00e7a pode ser reproduzida em outras \u00e1reas importantes para a biodiversidade.
